Michael J. Dul
Founding Partner
For over 40 years, Michael has demonstrated a passion for landscape architecture through his portfolio of completed projects. Creativity, an understanding of natural systems, and a detailed eye for the built environment have enabled him to produce site-specific solutions. Clients include corporations, municipalities, institutions, developers, and high-end residential.
Michael graduated from Michigan State University with a BS in Landscape Architecture and the ASLA Certificate of Honor for Excellence in the Study of Landscape Architecture. He’s a licensed Landscape Architect in the State of Michigan.
Michael helped realize his commitment to the profession through the establishment of a Legacy Endowment for the Landscape Architecture Program at Michigan State University. This endowment helps facilitate strategic investments in faculty support, graduate and undergraduate support, experiential learning, and program development. As a matter of fact, the MSU LA faculty members unanimously voted for Michael as the 2025 LA Distinguished Alumnus.

Patrick M. Funke
Partner
Patrick joined the firm in 1995 and brings creative design concepts to life through his project management skills. He monitors construction quality, timelines, and budgets to help ensure that projects meet our high design and quality standards. A skilled communicator, Patrick consistently exceeds client expectations. He now leads both field and facility operations for the firm.
He earned the ASLA Certificate of Honor for Excellence in the Study of Landscape Architecture, along with his BLA in Landscape Architecture from Michigan State University. He’s a licensed Landscape Architect and a Certified Natural Shoreline Professional in the State of Michigan.
Patrick enjoys time away from the office with his two sons and wife, Corinne, relaxing and recreating at their northern Michigan cottage. His oldest son, Graham, is attending the University of Michigan, Flint campus, pursuing a degree in Nursing. Brooks is attending Michigan State University with plans to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture. Go GREEN!

Timothy F. Shoemaker
Partner
Since joining the firm in 2014, Tim has completed a variety of residential and commercial projects, applying his design, computer graphics, and project management skill set. He now also leads sales, marketing, finance, and human resources for the firm.
Tim graduated with a BLA from Michigan State University, where he was a member of the Sigma Lambda Alpha Honors Society for Landscape Architecture. He has served multiple terms on the Michigan Chapter ASLA Executive Committee and is a licensed Landscape Architect in the State of Michigan.
Outside the office, Tim’s life revolves around his wife, two daughters, family, and friends. When not adventuring with his girls, he loves rooting for our local Detroit sports teams and the Spartans.

Donna Jackson
Operations Manager
Donna joined the firm in 2023, bringing over 30 years of experience in the Creative Services industry. She is a seasoned business leader in Operations Management while also delivering accounting and financial expertise. With an entrepreneurial spirit by nature, her passion lies in helping small businesses thrive. She earned her Bachelors in Business Administration from Walsh College.
In her free time, Donna is an avid reader who also enjoys cooking and watching football. However, her greatest joy is spending time with friends and family, including her husband and two sons.

Michael L. Jacobs
Landscape Architect
Michael joined the firm in 2021, bringing years of experience working with clients, contractors, design professionals, and municipalities to build thoughtful and high-performing outdoor spaces. His design skills and keen understanding of the built environment allow him to implement projects that successfully achieve the client’s goals and aspirations.
Michael holds Master’s degrees in both Architecture (MArch) and Landscape Architecture (MLA) from the University of Pennsylvania. He’s a licensed Landscape Architect in the state of Michigan.
Outside of work, Michael can be found biking, skateboarding, strolling, and exploring the nooks and crannies of our region. He loves spending time with his son, hanging out at parks, watching MSU basketball, drawing, and drinking coffee.

Brendan Britt
Landscape Designer
Brendan interned for two years prior to joining the firm full-time in 2024. He specializes in the application of computer and graphics skills throughout the design process. Brendan graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture. A member of the Michigan State Landscape Architecture Club, he also served two years on the executive board of his fraternity.
Brendan is an outdoor and sports enthusiast. He enjoys coaching baseball, golfing, hanging out at the lake, and spending time with his family.

Nate Higley
Landscape Designer
Nate joined the firm in 2024 after interning two previous summers. In 2023, he graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, accompanied by a double minor in Horticulture and Environmental Science & Sustainability. Throughout his academic journey, Nate placed second out of forty-six schools in a national landscape design competition hosted at Mississippi State University and was one of two 2022/2023 Michigan recipients of the Unilock “Paving the Future” Scholarship award.
Nate was drawn to the profession of landscape architecture due to his admiration of natural settings and wildlife. That combination allows him to create spaces where the client’s goals are met and the natural world benefits.
Outside the office, Nate can be found spending time with family and friends. He enjoys traveling, including trekking across state parks to spend time in the elements that fuel his work.

Matthew Bayer
Landscape Designer
After completing his internship, Matthew joined the team full-time in 2024. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from Michigan State University in 2023, including a Minor in Horticulture. He’s excited to now apply that background to a variety of projects, using a touch of his own artistic style.
MIASLA recognized Matthew with a Student Honor Design Award for his work on a Belle Isle restoration project. This award showcases his innovative and creative approach, with a commitment to sustainable design.
In his free time, you can find Matthew on the golf course, taking walks, or traveling and exploring with his family and friends.
